For me all art is a representation of time. Either it captures a moment or perhaps a span of life or it contains a sense of time in the execution represented by the detail or craftsmanship in the work itself. After traveling to Egypt and witnessing the highest forms of art from 5000+ years ago I realized that everything has been done. What hasn’t been done is what I haven’t done. I may reference art from throughout history but bring a contemporary viewpoint that is my personal statement. If this resonates with another person then art has been created. Art is what I do because that is who I am and it is as simple as that. I will continue to store time in my work and hopefully others can share their time with my work

My variation on the art is the addition of artificial miniature scenery. It has a distinct advantage over the traditional use of Bonsai plants because you can’t kill the stuff by forgetting to water it. My pieces have recently evolved away from rocks as the central element and expanded to include any natural scene which has an emotional appeal.

Jewelry

For many years, I have had a deep passion to collect and wear costume, fine and silver jewelry pieces from local artists and abroad. I love the ways each piece radiates with beauty and grace as it dances against their owner’s neckline. I respect the elegance it brings to a basic t-shirt and jeans as well as the illuminating landscape it provides to a versatile black dress.

On May 2008, I experienced a profound economic challenge to sustain my daughter’s private high school tuition. An evolution occurred. My affection of jewelry design was ignited; a work colleague shared her gifts as a jewelry designer and taught me the basics of jewelry making. Since then, I have learned to enhance my jewelry skills through the designs and creations of my own beautiful costume and fine handmade jewelry pieces. I have been inspired by nature, spirituality, travels, a range of artistic mediums and materials, jewelry magazines and much more.

Nizarrys Jewelry Designs (NJD) was born in my home as I used my kitchen as a studio to design and create each piece by hand with love and humility. NJD has participated in Handmade Market Chicago, Ravenswood ArtWalk (2009), Waters School Artisan Holiday Sale (2009/2010), various craft shows and fairs. I am honored to have a Nizarrys Jewelry Designs costume beaded necklace with gray stone pendant and matching earring registered as a gift in the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American History, and Kenneth E. Behring Center.
