When I paint, I am reminded of how my father taught me that life could be captured in a drawing or painting. I begin a piece with something from life that I want to capture, a moment in time or a vision. I know when a piece is done when I can see the intensity of feeling as well as a symmetry and balance. Much of my current work comes out of my travels around the world. It has given me the habit of living life like a tourist and seeing the characteristic, the typical, and the picturesque, as well as the moments that make life special.
